Flemish Cartoon Contest Classical Languages
- 2011
On 15 October 2011, three cartoons by Dries Peeten were awarded first prize by the professional and public juries of 'E Pluribus Unum', the Flemish cartoon competition on Latin and Greek expressions. The jury was led by Ludo Goderis, winner of the International Cartoon Festival Knokke-Heist. He praised the works of Dries: "The quality of the drawings and the linking of the Latin proverbs to the actual situation is excellent. Everyone sees the humour and the winks immediately." The award ceremony took place in the University buildings of Kortrijk.
With the expression 'Festina lente', which means 'Hurry up slowly', Dries shows politicians running after Yves Leterme. It is a reference to the slow formation of the government. The expression 'Amantes amentes' can be translated as 'Lovers are fools' and winks at the government negotiations.
